I have a 1999 chevy silverado 4x4 1500 pickup. How do a remove the
rear parking brake shoe? It appears you have to remove the axle to get
the shoe off, is this true?

Howdy mxgary-ga,

Are you aware of the recall that is concerned with the parking brakes, that
might be applicable to your truck? If it is applicable, it might take care
of your problem without doing the work yourself.

I was aware that there was a recall but my truck is an automatic and
the recall states manual transmission. I'm not sure if this recall
applies. My problem is I have the rear wheels off and the truck on
jacks and I have the new parts but I not sure how to remove the old
shoe!

I shall call the dealer on your recommendation. Can you find a
maintance manual that show how to remove the part?

Howdy mxgary-ga,

As you are in immediate need, if you have a large local library, they might
have a Chiltons manual, or even an online database for repairs. If there is
a large library near you, you might want to give them a call in the morning.
