Question ID: 567046
I am looking for a software that is very easy to use that will allow
me to watch any movie from any reigon. I have over 2000 DVD's most are
from the US but a good portion of them are from UK i need to be able
to watch them on my desktop without changing the reagion code. It does
not mate if i need to rip it first but i rather not, i am using
PowerDVD which came with my PC desktop but it only plays movies i got
from the US.

I tryed a ripping software but it was to hard to operate, sometimes
when i rip a DVD on my mac which i had no problems with newer DVD's
come with bad sectors so that it will not get ripped (i think).

To clarify i need the software to work with any DVD and is for my mac,
i have no problem buying hadware which i can hook up with my desktop
because 90% of teh time i enjoy a movie on my computer. Thanks you.

Hello xlr8s1v1ce-ga

To be able to read multi-region DVD's it usually depends on the
make/version of your DVD drive. Once you have this information it
depends on whether there is a region-free firmware available for your
DVD drive.

http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_all.php

You may have some success with one of the following programs:

http://www.videolan.org/vlc/
http://xineplayer.berlios.de/

Both of these players *can* play DVD's without first checking the
region of the drive. There is some information on this in the
VideoLan FAQ:

"Does VLC support DVDs from all regions?
Well this mostly depends on your DVD drive. Testing it is usually the
quickest way to find out. The problem is that a lot of newer drives
are RPC2 drives these days. Some of these drives don't allow raw
access to the drive untill the drive firmware has done a regioncheck.
VLC uses libdvdcss and it needs raw access to the DVD drive to crack
the encryption key. So with these drives it is impossible to
circumvent the region protection. (This goes for all software. You
will need to flash your drives firmware, but sometimes there is no
alternate firmware available for your drive). On other RPC2 drives
that DO allow raw access, it might take VLC a long time to crack the
key. So just pop the disc in your drive and try it out, while you get
a coffee. RPC1 drives should 'always' work regardless of the
regioncode."

Let me know if this helps out in any way, need any further help or if
this is sufficient for an answer.

Hi,

If you're trying to rip your DVD, try going to
http://www.videohelp.com. The site contains tons of information and
links to programs that can rip dvds from any region. I would reccomend
DVD Decrypter, which also removes the copyright from the disc. You
should be alerted that doing this is illegal unless you own a real
copy of the movie.

Check out SlySoft AnyDVD. The program works in the background and
removes country codes. If you're ripping from your Original DVD to a
Backup DVD, this program also allows the Backup DVD to have no country
code.

There many various ways to do this.

The easiest way to burn DVDs for free is using DVD43. When you open
this program, it automaticaly bypass region code and takes off the
security.

Available at http://www.dvd43.com/

Then you can you various programs but I found that DVD shrink is a
good choice to take. Its easy and another free program.

Available at http://dvdshrink.org/
