When I try to uninstall spam subtract (because google "desktop" says I
must do this to stop it from interfering with the gppg;e "desktop"
installation) I keep getting a "could not open INSTALL.LOG file". This
happens no matter how I try to uninstall spamsubtract. Can you help?

Follow what this guy did, it will fix it. Basically move your
install.log and uninstall.exe(or whatever it's called) files to the
root of your drive(ie c:\), then modify this location in the registry
at HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\<Appname>.

Peace
