I want to invest in an Indian exchange traded fund (ETF). I believe there are only a handful of funds but I am having trouble finding them. Most of them either track the SUNSEX or NIFTY indexes. I would like to know which funds are available for investment with their symbols. |

You don't say whether you're looking for an ETF in India or an ETF listed on (say) NYSE but tracking NIFTY - ie where are you based. If the former, look on http://www.nse-india.com/ - there is a link on the bar at the top to ETFs, under which is a list of the 5 currently listed on NSE. I think there is at least one listed on BSE in Mumbai too, presumably tracking Sensex, but I haven't looked. If the latter, I haven't found one. NYSE and AMEX list ETFs tracking indices in China (for instance) but not apparently India. The BGI iShares series doesn't have India. The nearest seems to be India Fund Inc (IFN) and Morgan Stanley India Investment Fund (IIF), neither of which are ETFs - I assume they are actively rather than passivley invested but I haven't gone and checked. |
