I'm asking this question on behalf of a friend and professor. We're opening up a Little Theatre at our school and we'd like (in her words) "an authentic, not home made but real, theatre ghost light." A ghost light (again her words) is "usually on a stand, maybe wrought iron or something, usually have 3 legs or feet, and roll [on wheels]. The top is usually a plain light bulb, sometimes with a wire cover. The electric cord usually comes out of the light fixture part." This is to be used in a real theatre, so something high quality and authentic is preferred. I need to be able to have it purchased, shipped and arrive by the 27th of September. |

For those who are not familiar with the tradition of a "ghost light," here's an interesting article: http://www.suburbanchicagonews.com/beaconnews/features/AU26_OUTTHERE_S3.htm |

Thanks, Pinky, I did indeed wonder what this was about, and wonder when the tradition started, and what they did before electricity, wondering further if it dates back to passion plays in churches (good place for ghosts) and could even be related to the light on the tabernacle in Catholic churches. Anyway ... Ivyelmire-ga, what you need is a "light stand". Search with the expression and you will find quite a few. If your colleague insists that it must have wheels, it may be more expensive. The stand can be purchased without a light fixture, something that could be simpler for just a light bulb. I don't expect that any ghosts in a brand new theater will be so experienced that they will take umbrage at an amateur solution Here is one site: http://www.tallyns.com/Aurora/AuroraStands.htm Scroll down to the one with wheels, if that is a must.
