In reviewing literature about what's better - pHp v. ASP - an argument I always read against ASP.NET is the hosting/serving. It states that licensing fees, among other things - mean the server or hosting for ASP.NET is more expensive. Here's the question, and I assume I know the answer: when people refer to ASP.NET hosting being more expensive, they are refering to a company's own server, as opposed to using another company's - such as godaddy.com. Correct? Feel free to set my thinking about this as straight as it needs to be. |

False: ASP.NET and PHP are two different server technologies. PHP is commonly used on Linux servers while ASP.NET is commonly used on Windows Servers. ASP and PHP are only two different programming languages that are dynamic scripting languages. You can find more about php at (http://php.net) and ASP.NET at (http://asp.net/Default.aspx?tabindex=0&tabid=1). No matter which server you use, a company's or a hosting provider's, you will use either ASP.NET whice you have to buy from Microsoft or PHP which is a free open source language. I hope this answers your question. please contact me if you have any more questions. Thanks. |

hi odulsmin, I browsed and studied godaddy.com and found that they charge the same price for both the linux and windows server. If you purchase the plans from them you will not have any cost advantage of using linux servers. They have simplified the plans the make the subscribers/buy easier. If you go and visit http://www.squarebrothers.com you can get the answer, where they offer 25MB space per year for linux servers and 10 MB space per year for windows server for the same charge/amount. PHP can be used in both the servers whereas the asp.net can be used only in windows. (i have heard of emulators which may or may not support asp.net in linux) |
