I am looking for stories of famous people AND famous businesses who
started out as the underdog and grew their business/celebrity to be
widely respected. Examples, Henry Ford, Coke, etc. The common ones are
fine but I'd like to also learn about more obscure stories like Georg
Riedel (the glassblower Seth Godin talks about in "All Marketers Are
Liars".

Gad! There are just so many; J.K.Rawling (Harry Potter), J.J. Astor,
and many, many other immigrants to USA, Edison, J.D.Rockefeller, the
founder of "Wienerwald" restaurants (went back to better rags), many
US presidents - maybe not "riches", but greater recognition in
history. The list could be endless.

In that case you would be paying the researcher $1.00 or less per
story. Will fifteen to twenty single links to various stories suffice?
- that is probably the most you can expect for the price.

Call on me if you're ever interested in hearing dozens of "riches to
rags" stories. I know LOTS of those.
