Hi. I do not like my current Yahoo email address, but lots of people
have it and use it. I would like to set up a new email address (on
Yahoo or another service) that would be coordinated with my current
one. By that I mean

1) that I can still retain use all information in my current Folders,
and continue to use them by adding new notes.

2) that all email will come into one mailbox.

3) my reply to the sender of any email will say that the reply comes
from the address that is used by the sender (meaning the new one or
the old one).

this seems like it would be very simple, but I cannot figure out how
to do it on Yahoo Help.

PLease note that the "answer " must be very simple to understand. I do
not understand terms like POP, POP3, STMP, server, client, etc.

thanks

Hi Kid Bevan,

What you need to do is to set up "alias" (or "disposable") email
addresses "on top of" your primary Yahoo email account. For example:

Let's say your email address at yahoo.com is:
kid1@
and you make an alias email address:
kb@
When someone sends a message to kb@, it will actually be sent to your
kid1@ primary email account but the person who sent the email will
only be aware of your kb@ address. The "reply" email address will
remain kb@.

This is possible to do on Yahoo, but not with the free service. If you
sign up for Yahoo Mail Plus ($19.99 per year), you will be able to add
up to 500 alias email addresses to your account using AddressGuard.

"If you're ever worried about giving out your email address on a web
site, AddressGuard is for you. Instead of leaving your address open to
spam, you can use a disposable email address, while still accessing
all your mail in one place.
You can create up to 500 disposable addresses with Yahoo! Mail. Use
these when you want to give an email address to a site that you
suspect might share or sell it. Create several if you shop at
different places and want to have a different email address for each
store, mailing list, etc. You can view messages sent to each of your
disposable addresses in your Inbox or a folder that you designate."

"Messages sent to any of your disposable email addresses will be
automatically forwarded to your Yahoo! Mail account, and you can
decide to direct these messages to a specific folder."
http://help.yahoo.com/help/us/mail/plus/addressguard/addressguard-04.html

How do I receive messages sent to my disposable addresses?
"By default, messages sent to your disposable addresses are delivered
to your inbox along with messages sent to your Yahoo! Mail address.
All messages are filtered by SpamGuard Plus (if it's on), so
recognized spam will be delivered to your bulk folder.
You can customize how you want to receive messages for each disposable
address, either at the time you create it, or by going to the Mail
Options page, then click on "AddressGuard." You will see a list of all
your disposable addresses. Select the one you want to manage and click
the "Edit" button."
http://help.yahoo.com/help/us/mail/plus/addressguard/addressguard-05.html

Are all the disposable addresses @yahoo.com?
"The domain name for your disposable addresses is the same as the one
for you Yahoo! Mail primary address. If your mail account is
@yahoo.co.uk, then your disposable addresses are also @yahoo.co.uk."

4. "For promotional offers and software downloads, use an alternate
email address that you do not care about. Or better still, use
disposable email address feature like Yahoo! AddressGuard.
AddressGuard comes with Y! Mail Plus ($19.99/year, also bundles 2 GB
storage, POP access and forwarding)."

I'm confident AddressGuard will do exactly what you have in mind (I'm
sorry there is not a free solution using Yahoo). If you have any
questions, please post a clarification request and wait for me to
respond before closing/rating my answer.

Hi Hummer. Excellent answer. I had not thought about using the
aliases. (And I already have email Plus.)

A clarification please. Let's say that the alias is the email address
I now want folks to use. Is there a way to have all messages that I
send have the alias shown in the "From" line? (I have tried to find an
answer to this in the "mail help" section, but have not been able to
find it.)

As I searched for the answer to my question, I also wondered if there
is a way to accomplish my objective in the original question by using
"AddressGuard". Or is "AddressGuard" actually the same as setting up
the "alias"? Please respond.

Thanks a lot.

Hi Kid Bevan,

Good, I'm glad to hear that my answer was on the right track.

In regards to setting your reply-to address:
I don't have Yahoo Plus so your directions may be slightly different.
Go to "Options" (upper right-hand corner) and click on
"Personalization: General Preferences". Set your "From Name" and
"Reply to" under "Name and Email" to whatever you would like.

In regards to AddressGuard:
Yes, you'll use AddressGuard to set up your aliases (it's the only way
to do it within Yahoo).

Let me know if you run into any snags and I'll try to help!

Hello Kid Bevan,

Please provide more information about the way you currently access
email. Specifically:
1) Do you currently use the Yahoo Webmail interface at mail.yahoo.com
to read/organize your email, or do you use a program such as Outlook
that pulls your email from your Yahoo account to your computer?
2) If you use the Yahoo mail website, do you have the free service or
the subscription service?

Thank you,
