THis posting is for SUBLIME1-ga ONLY. I had to repost the question because once it is closed out you cannot reopen it. Your answer was fine. Please post officially so I can close out and you can get paid. Thanks. In searching for a new job, I often need to find the name of the person in Charge of Marketing. For this task, I use Google Advanced search, plug in the title and name of web site. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. My question is: Is there a better way to get this information online and why would a name not appear when you know it's there? Example: I was on the sharpsec.com site and saw a person's name in a press release (robert pleyer) . But when I did a test to search for his name, it came up with no results. |

I see that you want to enter '"Director of Marketing" site:www.sharp-usa.com' and find Robert Pleyer. Well, first of all, he's also known as 'product marketing manager': http://www.sharp-usa.com/products/FunctionPressReleaseSingle/0,1080,194-14,00.html ...so you'd have to enter that exact phrase: "product marketing manager" site:www.sharp-usa.com which worked fine for me: ://www.google.com/search?hl=en&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=%22product+marketing+manager%22+www.sharp-usa.com If you enter '"Director of Marketing" site:www.sharp-usa.com', you'll see a number of associate directors of marketing, none of whom is Robert Pleyer: ://www.google.com/search?num=50&hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=%22Director+of+Marketing%22+site%3Awww.sharp-usa.com www.sharpsec.com produces no results, so I'd stick with www.sharp-usa.com. An alternative, but not neccesarily better method, as it's less precise, is to input the title and the name of the company, as in: "director of marketing" + "sharp electronics" which produces this page: ://www.google.com/search?num=50&hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=%22director+of+marketing%22+%2B+%22sharp+electronics%22 This brings up results similar to entering the title and the website, as in: [ "Director of Marketing" site:www.sharp-usa.com ] ...in that it yields the same listings for 'associate director of marketing'. However, this alternative is less precise, producing 323 hits, many of which are irrelevant, vs 13 hits using the website search. That's the best alternative I know, however. I very much appreciate your reposting the question and allowing me to answer it. sublime1-ga |

rated this answer:![]() My question had two parts. For part one they were able to find another site that had the information I needed. For part two, they didn't really have any other suggestions, however, I wasn't sure any existed, so they were able to confirm that my method of search was a good one. I am satisfied with my answer. Thanks Sublime1 |
