I have a set of japanese doors (Shijo doors I believe they are called)
They are said to have been a gift from the japanese government to a US
ambassador.(either the first US ambassador to Japan or the first one
after WWII I believe) I need actual documentation in (diaries,
government data, or other) I am trying to find out the valididy of
this.

According to this web site, the first US Ambassador was appointed in
1906. After WWII Robert D. Murphy was appointed Ambassador in 1952.
Have any further information which could help a researcher to identify
which ambassador it could be?

What kind of documentation accompanies your doors?  What basis did the
seller have for his claim?
