elena...
Thank you for acknowledging my work up to this point, which
I'll include here for the sake of future readers:
--------------------------------------------------------------
While not exactly "therapy" or "healing", as such, the Avatar
Course is an experiential (vs. verbal) course which provides
tools aimed precisely at identifying beliefs at the root of
experiences we'd prefen not to be having, and changing those
beliefs to those which will produce the experiences we would
prefer. The home page is here:
http://www.avatarepc.com/
And you can locate those who deliver the course in New York
here:
http://www.avatarepc.com/html/uslist.html#ny
I've taken the course, and am licensed to deliver it, though
I don't do so in New York. It's just that my experience with
the course and its results (which continue to the present day)
are far superior to anything I encountered while working in
the field of mental health for 20+ years, or the equal amount
of time I spent searching for results in metaphysical and
spiritual circles.
-----
I searched high and low, but Core Belief Engineering is a
relatively new therapy originated by Elly Roselle out of
Canada, and all the certified practitioners I located were
also located in Canada, which is the only location in which
certification is offered.
As for Avatar, the basic course is a full 10 days and about
10 hours a day. In order to be licensed to deliver the course,
one is required to attend and "pass" a Masters Course, which
is another 10 days, 10 hours a day. Attending does not
guarantee licensure, and new licensees are required to
intern under a Qualified Master before delivering the course
on their own. Additionally, the course offers a money-back
guarantee if you're dissatisfied with the results.
The course is designed to provide you the tools so that you
become empowered to identify and eliminate limiting beliefs
and replace them with what you would prefer. It is meant to
offer you the means to work on yourself without the need of
an outside therapist. So, while some issues (a lot, actually)
are usually resolved during the course, much more can be
accomplished afterwards. Since you're working on yourself
both during the course and afterwards, there is not the
same dynamic as in therapy, in which you must disclose your
personal history and issues to others, unless you choose
to do so.
Most Masters are therefore more interested in delivering the
course and providing you with the tools to work on yourself
than in providing one-on-one counseling, but many masters
do participate in other counseling work, so it might be
possible to find one that would suit your interests in that.
You said that the page I referred you to with Masters in
New York offered no links to websites, but there are some
that I can see:
Victor Daniel
http://www.mindbody-soul.com/avatar.html
Sylvia S. Davi
http://www.avatarawakenings.com/
Susan Davies

Their phone numbers are listed, as well, so you can always
chat them up and get a feel for how the course might serve
you in contrast with therapy sessions.
You can also explore the Avatar mini-courses on your own,
at no cost. They will provide you with a good sense of
the contents and nature of the Course itself:

I will add the following as possibly being of interest to you:
A much more common form of psychotherapy which deals with the
discovery and alteration of dysfunctional beliefs is Cognitive
Therapy. While I personally don't think it's as effective as
the Avatar Course, I'll include here the search results for
Cognitive Therapists in New York:
"cognitive therapist" "new york" OR NY
://www.google.com/search?q=%22cognitive+therapist%22+%22new+york%22+OR+NY
And here's a page from the Academy of Cognitive Therapy
where you can search for a certified therapist by city
and state, or by zipcode:
http://www.academyofct.org/Info/CertifiedMembers.asp?szparent=80&SessionID=gqkiqsigo
Another, less traditional therapy, which came out of
the discipline of NeuroLinguistic Programming (NLP),
is called Core Transformation. Their homepage is:
http://www.coretransformation.org/index.htm
There is a book about it which you can read for more
information, as well as a case study on the website:
http://www.coretransformation.org/sample_case.htm
They also have a calendar of upcoming events:
http://www.coretransformation.org/calendar.htm
That points to the NLP Center of NY:
http://www.nlptraining.com/index.asp
The Center offers Core Transformation, but the only
scheduled event started September 17th.
The next scheduled event is April 1-2, 2006:

I hope this provides you with a sufficient array of options
from which to choose.
Please do not rate this answer until you are satisfied that
the answer cannot be improved upon by way of a dialog
