Hi oaksrok Bear in mind that the magnetic north pole moves over time, so any grid reference is merely a snapshot and not a permanent position. http://www.cnn.com/2002/TECH/space/03/20/north.pole/?related?related An image plotting the route of magnetic north throughout the 20th Century can be seen towards the bottom of: http://deeptow.whoi.edu/northpole.html The most recent figures for which a detailed position of magentic north has been surveyed seem to be those from 1994: "... the average position of the North Magnetic Pole in 1994 was located on the Noice Peninsula, southwest Ellef Ringnes Island, at 78.3 deg N, 104.0 deg W. The yearly motion of the pole has increased, and is now 15 km per year." http://www.geolab.nrcan.gc.ca/geomag/e_nmpole.html Note that detailed, accurate surveys of the true position of magnetic north are usually carried out once every ten years, so there should be more recent figures due with a couple of years. I hope this helps. Regards iaint-ga Google search terms used: magnetic north location ://www.google.co.uk/search?q=magnetic%20north%20location |
