As some of you may know, our cell phones have built in GPS
capabilities. They have two settings on them. One sets the GPS signal
to always on and the other turns it on only in emergencies. I would
like to know if it is possible to locate my phone using GPS. Let's say
that I lose my phone and I want to find out where it is, I could go
onto my computer type in the GPS signal and see that I left it
downtown or something. And if so...how? Can I download a program from
the internet to view a specific GPS signal? Is it free? Can I even get
the GPS number from the phone company? And if so are they obligated to
give me this number or can they refuse to give it out? I am using
verizon wireless as my carrier and I have a LGVX4650 phone. Thanks for
any help you may be able to provide.

Did you know that the schmucks at Verizon have actually disabled
certain features of phones they distribute? I don't know about GPS,
but although certain LG phones have full BlueTooth capability, Verizon
disabled most of this.

Looks like it was a Motorola phone, but who knows what they do with
the others. Just Google "verizon disables features" for more info.

Is it truly a GPS function or does it rely on triangulation from
terrestial antennas?
