ok im guessing that you upgraded your winxp home edition to SP 2. cool. ok so when you right clicked pchealth.inf and clicked install it gave you a dialog asking for "dataspec.xml". it asks you this because these files are updates with SP2. so you dont have a SP 2 disk. this is ok. when you get the prompt for the sp2 cd, just redirect the prompt wizard to "c:\windows\servicepackfiles\i386" (no quote). and click "ok". try that, and let me know what happens. you might need to have your CD still in the drive, just in case. |

i did that and where the "dataspec.xml and it still says it needs the service pack 2 cd. also forgot to tell you, when i go to run and type in helpctr -regserver, it says windows can't find helpctr. when I go to search it doesn't find it either, but i did get a shortcut to helpctr put on my desktop, so i guess it doesn't matter if it is not in its box above run. There are a lot of things that i can't do in the run box, but i can find in the search, something along the way is now allowing me to use d:\setup.exe in there, but i not sure why it won't do other things like mscongfig.exe. I can do msconfig.exe but looking for it in search. i did check to not hide folders, but i did leave the system folders hid, which was recommended. Should I leave system folders hid? maybe i need to order the xp service pack 2 on cd. I do want to pay you for your time, and i don't know how to do that in the comment box, maybe you can answer me in the answer box about the last question. thanks! kim |

you do need to keep the system files hidden. thats important. if you are computer savvy enough, you can search on google on how to slip stream SP2 using your SP1 disk. this would save you time and money. you should keep hidden files hidden, unless you need them. |

You need to create a slipstreamed XP Home disk with SP2. Not that hard to do, but too long to post here. Follow the directions on one of these two sites, and you will have a brand new XP Home disk, with SP2 on it: http://www.winsupersite.com/showcase/windowsxp_sp2_slipstream.asp http://www.theeldergeek.com/slipstreamed_xpsp2_cd.htm FE |
