Traditional commercial internet sites build traffic usually by
offering free information and then once throughput is achieved, charge
the users of information in various ways. I am establishing a
commercial website that charges not the users of information, but the
providers of the information, which information is in the form of pdf
documents (reports) and accessible through a website linked to a
database. In return for posting the information the providers of
information receive reports that interest them (that may or may not
involve using information posted to the website). The providers of
information also contribute to a common goal which is consolidating in
one url information from similar businesses but many different sources
(countries). This consolidated concentration of information is useful
as the providers of information have a resource to benchmark their
performance with their peers and the same applies to all the users of
the information. The website also provides an alerts service that aids
the communication interface between the companies and their
stakeholders. For those companies without websites the posting of the
information on the website acts as a proxy website becuase their
company profile will be displayed.

I have to clarify that the information being posted is not
commercially oriented ie it DOES NOT have as its main objective the
marketing of a companies products but rather other corporate documents
e.g. periodic reports eg speeches and annual financial statements for
shareholders

My question
- what are examples of the above model - documents available for free
with providers of information being charged for posting the
information - there is an altruistic assumption that consolidating all
the information in a single site will benefit all
- what are the main advantages of using this model
- what are the main disadvantages of using this model
- I would like access to some research papers on commercial internet
models specifically including the model above and some background
- what are the main pitfalls in establising a commercial internet site
and are there any statistics on failures thereof - more recently - not
during the Internet bubble
- are there any guidelines on how to charge for advertising space on
Websites and what will and advertiser or sponsor look for before
agreeing to sponsor / advertise on a site - advertising charges appear
to be very high in relation to what is offered.
