total number -> latest available as of 2004 as 9,360,727 worldwide.
Does Physician meet your requirement of registered medical doctor?

Yes, it does - it is fine - thank you. 

Is there any chance that you can do something about my two other
questions ID no. 570156 and 570136? - or maybe pass the question on to
a researcher with an interest in the medical field? Maybe the best way
to identify the number of cannulations per year is to look at the
market for IV cannulas - e.g. how many cannulas sold/year. I remember
that I once saw a "google answer" on this topic used as a reference.
Is there a way to look/search in previous answers?
