Clarification of Question by

My primary interest, here, is in determining in what disciplines, if
any, the universities in B.C. and Alberta could be considered
'world-class', i.e. where their academic reputation and research
capabilities would place them at a level comparable to some of the
best universities in the world. I don't necessarily require an exact
numerical ranking; a qualitative assessment would suffice (as long as
you are able to provide the basis for your analysis).
The major universities in B.C. and Alberta are:
British Columbia
? University of British Columbia
? University of Northern British Columbia
? University of Victoria
? Simon Fraser University
? Royal Roads University
? Thompson Rivers University
Alberta
? University of Alberta
? University of Calgary
? University of Lethbridge
My questions then would be:
1. In which (i) departments, (ii) disciplines, (iii) undergraduate
majors, (iv) graduate schools or (iv) research institutes, do these
universities particularly excel?
2. Is there even anecdotal or secondary source material that suggests
which of these universities would be on par with the leading
universities around the world in any of the following subjects:
(a) Medical-related fields:
? Biological and Biomedical Sciences
? Community Health Sciences
? School of Medicine (including all medical sub-specialties, i.e.
obstetrics, cardiology, etc.)
? Post ?graduate medical education
? Nursing Studies
? Health Sciences
(b) Educational Development ? including education research and teacher training
(c) Study of the effects and conditions of early childhood on
subsequent well-being and performance
(d) International Development, including public administration and
rural development
(e) Study of economic and social development in mountain regions,
including research on:
? Tourism and the leisure university
? Natural Resources and Regional Development
I hope this helps clarify my question.
