Russell G. Lynch, Milwaukee sports writer, was born June 27, 1899 and died in Milwaukee, WI, in May, 1979. I need his date of death. Here is what I have for him. Milwaukee spwr.; sports editor and reporter for papers in Racine and in LaPorte, Ind., before joining the Journal in 1922 as a rewrite man. Became sports editor in 1933, holding the post until 1956, when he became a natural resources reporter. He retired in 1964. Milwaukee Journal spwr. (1922-56). After retiring from newspaper work, Lynch became the first chairman of the new Natural Resources Board. It was 1967, and environmental concerns were popping up all over. He is credited for having played a major role in the move of the National League Braves baseball team from Boston to Milwaukee. Wrote "The Milwakee Braves" with Harold Kaese, in 1951. |

Hi Bluestreak-ga, Thanks for your question. It feels like old times! According to "Who Was Who in America with World Notables," Russell George Lynch died on May 12, 1979. The information in the entry corresponds with what you already have (including the birthdate). Lynch was the sports editior of the Racine Times Call from 1919-1920. He worked as a reporter on the Racine Journal News in 1920, then back to the Racine Times Call in the same capacity until 1922. He was a rewrite man on the Milwaukee Journal from 1922 to 1933 and then the sports editor until 1956. He also served in the military during World War I. He had one son. Who Was Who in America with World Notables: 1977-1981. Illinois, USA: Marquis Who's Who: 1981, vol. VII, page 363 SEARCH STRATEGY: After assorted searches on Google with no results. I went to the print volumes of Biography and Master Genealogy Index, which lead me to the Who Was Who in America citation. I hope this answers your question. Let me know if you need additional clarification and I will do my best to assist you. Regards, luciaphile-ga |
