According to National Bureau of Statistics of China (NBS), in 2002, Chinese government gave out 83.93 billion Yuan (Chinese dollar)funding. Most founding is through Ministry of Science and Technology of the People´s Republic of China (S&T). You can access to their website: http://www.most.gov.cn/eng/ National Natural Science Fundation of China, they give annual funding for excellency in science, including biotech. :) |

I believe the National Natural Science Foundation of China, much like the NIH, is the main source of basic science research grants. The Ministry of Science and Technology is another source of grants but they cover a larger array of research areas. Here's a breakdown of the Life Sciences funding from the NNSF for 2003 and 2004. http://www.nsfc.gov.cn/e_nsfc/2004/02gp/001gp/201.htm |

I meant 2002 and 2003. There's no data available yet on 2004. |
