Can information be found on the origin and design of the "1831" 30cc
(or thereabouts) model internal combustion engine believed to have
been featured in the "Model Engineer" in the 1950s or early 1960s?

Hello Milton1958,

Are you sure of the date and type of engine? The general "first date"
for internal combustion engines is generally recognized to be in the
early 1860's to late 1870's (Lenoir - 3% efficient, Otto - four cycle)
depending on the type. In the 1830's, there were some "gas engines"
and certainly "steam engines" in the period. If you are sure, I can do
some more research on this topic.

Thanks.

It is a 4 stroke water-cooled engine sometimes known as the "1831"
because first installed by its designer in a locomotive of that name.
Can you discover the designer and the date of the design?

Volume 106 refers to 1952. The second number is the issue, #2664.
106,2664,751,"Smoke Rings",,"Our Cover Picture (30 c.c. o.h.v.

I did not see any of #2664 for sale on my usual sites, but I don't
know many uk bookstores.
