Based on the following references, ESPN's Insider is relying on
WhatIfSports.com for its simulations. Their free "SimMatchupFootball"
page is located at: http://www.whatifsports.com/nfl/default.asp.

"Super Bowl XXXVIII (Feb. 1) is still more than a week away, but we've
got an early look at what might happen. We asked WhatIfSports.com to
simulate a matchup between the Patriots and Panthers and the results
were close."

"Late rally lifts Panthers to simulated title" By Brian P. Kelly
(January, 21 2004) ESPN.com
http://x.go.com/cgi/x.pl?goto=http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/playoffs03/news/story?id=1714305&name=SEARCH_espn&srvc=sz

"The What-If-Sports simulation engine was 2-for-2 on Saturday,
correctly picking both top seeds, Illinois and North Carolina, to
reach Monday's national title game. The simulator now has gone 31-11
in tournament games we've asked it to pick."

"NCAA Tournament Guide" Insider, ESPN.com (April 4, 2005)

Two other simulators that may interest you:

"NFL Wager Simulator" BetJunkie.com (2005) http://wagersimulator.com/

"If you would like to bet on NFL games, or are already doing so
without any financial gain, then NFL Wager Simulator is the program
for you. While there will always be a "chance" or "luck" component to
placing wagers, professionals know that the key to winning is
analyzing statistics. NFL Wager Simulator is a specialty software
application that contains a database of past NFL games (going back 20
years) and teaches people the basics of correct NFL game betting. It
features all three popular bets - point spread, game total, money
line."

"JoeSwammiNFL" JoeSwammi Software (2004) http://www.joeswammi.com/

"Use JoeSwammi NFL as a tool to help you pick your weekly winners.
JoeSwammi NFL will quickly compute the week's match-ups using a
special statistical formula using current season statistics." Note:
"JoeSwammiNFL 2005 will not be released. I did not have time to
develop a newer version. I was not satisfied with the version I am
working with, which is just a hack of previous versions. So I spared
everyone from it's public release. I will however, try and update this
page with it's picks on every Tuesday because it still uses up-to-date
statistics with reliable formulas. A 2006 version is in development."

I came up with the following by doing a whois search on the domain
names. Please note that the second web site has a contact in Kiev,
Ukraine, so a long-distance call there is likely to be very expensive
and you may not reach someone who speaks English. I cannot guarantee
results from calling these numbers; the companies are apparently not
eager to receive phone calls.

Sincerely,

Wonko

I joined WhatIfSports.com a month ago. They have some great concepts,
decent production, but there customer service is the worst I've
encounted in my year's on online gaming.
