I know a woman who lives with her daughter and son in law in
California who has considerable assets but no income, is a 68 year
old divorcee and she receives Medi-Cal. I thought you had to have
limited assets in order to be covered by Medi-Cal. Her daughter is a
lawyer. This woman received a very nice divorce settlement. A piece of
property, valued at a million dollars, in a foreign country was
awarded to her. She cancelled her health insurance when she received
notice that she qualified for Medi-Cal. I thought Medi-Cal was
reserved for those who would be without medical care if they did not
have Medi-Cal. She takes care of her grandchildren while her daughter
and son-in-law work.
