when ever i boot up my pc, i get the new hardware install window along with a smaller one down in the right corner saying new hardware has been detected, and one that says there was a problem installing the hardware and it might not work properly. i have recently installed a nec 3540a dvd burner with its own firmware inside, this is mentioned in the pop ups, fact is the burner needed no drivers and is working fine...how do i get those windows to stop openning? |

I realize this mentions a printer, but the theory is the same. Might work for you. Whenever you restart your computer, the New Hardware Wizard may detect your previously installed printer, even though it is not a newly installed printer. This problem can occur when the printer driver is initially installed. The printer installation program from the manufacturer does not enable the New Hardware Wizard to finish its detection of the newly installed printer. To work around this problem, enable the New Hardware Wizard to finish, even though the wizard cannot detect a new printer. ======== Instead of clicking 'Cancel' try clicking 'Install' all the way through like you were going to install it. Let Windows search for the driver and when it tells you it can't find it, click 'Finish' or whatever is applicable. That should stop it from popping up each time. You will still have a big yellow "?" in your Device Manager. |

Something else to try: 1) Go to the device manager (right-click My Computer icon, select Manage, then Device Manager from in the left-hand pane). 2) Find the device giving you the problem (will be listed in the Other category in the right-hand pane with a question mark) 3) Right click on it, click Disable |
