Hello. I received a summons notice on 9.23.05 for "Urinating in
Public" in Sayreville, NJ. The summons states a violation of charge
5-2.1A and requires a court appearance on November 1.

The situation happened with an unmarked police car about 30 feet away
on a dark street. I went to relieve myself on the grass on the side
of a road when the officer started shining a flashlight in my general
area. I didn't get to start to urinate, but immediately buckled my
belt back. I was with two other people and the police motioned for my
attention. My one friend asked who's attention he was trying to get
and the officer responded with, "the jackass who was just pissing."
The officer came closer and asked for my license and I complied and
handed it over. I did NOT admit or deny anything and waited while the
officer went 30 feet back to his parked unmarked car. Few minutes
later, the officer came back with the summons. The officer commented
that there was a park in the distance where kids play and they don't
need people pissing on it. No other conversation was had between
myself and the officer. I took the summons (did not sign anything)
and went on my way.

My questions--
1. What sort of penalty does this carry? Any idea on the range of fines?
2. What type of complaint is this (a misdemeanor??). If pled guilty,
how would this impact my clean record? (With the exception of two
parking tickets that I paid the fines for) Is this considered "a
crime" where jobs or other agencies running background checks would
red flag?
3. Is there a way to not appear in court and pay the fine?
4. What would be the best course of action to expedite this?

Thank you
