I have a Tablet PC (Compaq). I blue screened and needed to re-install the OS. I took the recovery disks from HP/Compaq and when I attempted to recover the Tablet I received the following error: "There is no PQ product to launch" Since I cannot buy the XP tablet edition on the open market, how do I recover the machine? I can still use it and I installed Windows XP Home edition on it but XP Home edition does not support the ink and other features. |

Instead of replacing the operating system, try fixing it. Windows will only blue-screen (stop error) due to a serious hardware problem, so a re-install of the operating system will be useless if the hardware (disk or RAM) has failed. First, test for memory errors by making a memtest disk (floppy or CD-ROM) from memtest.org. Next, try starting Windows in safe mode (hit F8) or boot from a Windows XP (home or pro, it doesn't matter) CD-ROM and go to the recovery console option. Run the chkdsk /r utility from the C: drive to repair the file system. |

Thanks, I have now done that and the memory is fine. The problem is that the recovery disks seems to assume some file or back-up system will be available, but it is not so I get a "file not found error" as Disk1 of the recovery CD is launched by booting from the CD, or if I try to launch the recovery executable after I have booted Windows XP I get the "There is no PQ product to launch" error. I believe PQ is from Transmeta's PowerQuest. |

most likely it is a hardware failure or something to do with the hard drive such as a virus that destroyed vital data on the hd for recover and wunning of windows. when you try to recover it might not be able to find the files that are usually kept on a hidden partition on the hard drive. most new models of computers come with a hidden partition that stores the actual recovery data and the recovery disk is just a program with only part of the backup image on it. the disk actually is a program that can access that data and reimage the hd with the image stored on the hidden partition. if it is a hd failure and there is a hidden partition for recovery data ( you might have to contact the manufacture to find this out) you will have to get a full recovery set of cd's (i have seen some that take 14 cd's to do a full recovery) from the manufacture to reimage the hd. |
