I am wanting to know what options I have in order to expedite the
distribution of my deceased grandmothers will, in order to receive my
inheritance. I am one, out of the four grandchildren that were each
left 100,000.00 dollars a piece. Furthermore, my mother and her
sister were each left their mothers house, and a pretty equal/straight
forward division of the bulk of the estates assets. My grandmother
had left everything pretty much spelled out, for the most part in her
final will. My mothers sister, is the executor of the estate/will.
It has been almost a year now since my grandmothers death. Also,
there has been some questions raised on occasion regarding the
legality as well as the moral/ethics surrounding this situation. The
primary one being that my aunt has just recently given each of the
grandchildren $10,000.00 a piece. Furthermore, the estate check from
which mine was written on, was dated over a month prior to my
receiving it. My mother is trying to be patient and diplomatic about
the situation and its sensitive nature, as am I. However, they are
not very close to one another, and my aunt has a reputation of not
having the most integrity and morals when it comes to certain things.
Not to mention she's a former lawyer from years ago. I've just heard
horror stories about these type of situations where the whole thing
ends up going wrong, when it could have(and should have)been avoided
all along. Please, if anyone has any insight or advice on this deal
it would be greatly appreciated.

Since the grandchildren have all received $10K checks, and
(hopefully), a good deal more is on the way, is there anything
stopping ou from pooling your resources, and hiring a lawyer for a
consultation.

Whatever information you can receive here would only be tangentially
useful. You really need a legal professional who knows estate law in
your area, to review the situation, and advise you of your options.

I don't think a preliminary consultation would break the bank, so you
may want to get with the other grandchildren and see what they think.

Let me know your thoughts on this.

You might want to have a lawyer read the will. The executor of a will
has a tremondous amount of authority, and it might be up to you to
make sure the stipulations of the will are followed.

A lawyer can tell you if your inheritance is guaranteed or if there is
some way to avoid giving you what was left to you.

My wife was named in her Aunt's will. The Executor was left the
house, and the "remainder of the estate" was to be split between two
nieces. The Executor didn't sell the house but used the cash in the
estate to pay the taxes and other "allowable expenses" until the cash
was all gone. In the end we got nothing.
