Investors may participate in certain stock programs. such as DRIPs,
and receive fractional shares. At liquidation, companies or their
stock agents generally pay the stockholder in cash for these
fractional shares. Sometimes, they even charge an exorbiant price to
get rid of fractional shares. Is there any means of transferring the
fractional shares to someone else or to obtain a stock certificate for
the fractional share instead of cash?

Please provide a response other than to contact the company or the
transfer agent. Although the question is quite general, is there
anything in the law that states that we can request for the shares vs.
the cash payout?
