What is the value of $40 USD in July 1992 compared with today (2005)?

There are 2 different dates in this question -- 1992 and 1922.  For
which date would you like the comparison?  It may be impossible to do
July of 1922 but monthly inflation data is available for 1992.

Sorry about that - I am looking for 1922 when my great grandmother
entered Ellis Island with $40.00 and I wanted to know the approximate
value of that today.
