Hi

Just inherited a two-year old compaq and it looks as though I need to
change the motherboard. How can know what motherboards will fit? Can
you show me an example at newegg.com or bestbuy.com? It has a 2.6
Celeron, model number S4200NX.

I don't have any more specs, but feel free to ask questions about the
computer. It's sitting right here...

Thanks for your comment, sclonghair.

I did search for it at HP's site, and it looks like it is #
DF215-69002. I did find a replacement there, but it was $150. That's
fine, but I want to see if I can find a cheaper alternative...

I did a search with the model number of the PC (DF215A) and
motherboard, and found this site:
http://www.elhvb.com/mboards/OEM/HP/

According to this (ender the Echo GL section), the motherboard is
"Asus P4G533-LA/P4G533-GL (10/16/2003-I845G/ICH4/IT8708-P4G533LA
11/05/2002-I845G/ICH4/IT8708-P4G533LA)"

Whatever that means.

At new egg, I searched around for Asus P4G533 and could not find it; I
then narrowed the searhc to include Asus motherboards with "P4" in the
title. I found a list of Asus motherboards, and specifically, this
(http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813131460)hard
drive. It looks simalar. Would this work for my compaq?

So, to change the scope of the question a bit, I guess I'm asking
this: will this (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813131460)
motherboard work for my compaq? If not, can you reccomend one that
will?
Answer

You should search by model # of the computer or contact Compaq to see
if a replacement is still available.

Yes, that motherboard will work with your computer. If you would like
to know what motherboards can fit in your case, just make sure it is
an "atx" motherboard.
