Many stores have commissioned music CDs that: 1) are not available in
typical music outlets (ex. Sam Goody); 2)have their name on the front
insert; and 3)are intended to convey some aspect of their store, or
the store's customers. These CD's are usually compilations of artists
with 8-12 songs. I have found the web-sites for two companies that
produce only these types of CDs: www.rockrivermusic.com and
www.n1ear.com. These sites give a good product description and show
some CDs they have created for clients (esp. the Rock River Music
web-site). These CDs are sometimes sold in the store, sometimes a
give-away to good customers or sometimes a promotional item with a
product.
I have found CDs produced by airlines (United, Northwest, Lufthansa,
British Airlines), dealerships (Chevrolet, Dodge, Nissan, Mercedes),
banks (BankOne, Emigrant Savings Bank, Bank of America), clothing
stores (Lane Bryant, Old Navy, Abercrombie & Fitch), chocolate stores
(Godiva) and multiple other stores. Pottery Barn, Old Navy, Victoria's
Secret and Eddie Bauer have made a fetish of putting out these CDs.
Starbucks has taken it to a new level in making its own label.
I am looking for sources of information about this category of music
CD's and, most of all, a comprehensive list of all the CDs that fit
into this category by all the music producing companies.
I am not interested in CDs that have music from a band or tour that is
sponsored by a prticular company (ex. "'The Big Palooka Tour'
sponsored by McDonalds" or "The Rolling Stones Concert sponsored by
Jovan Musk"). |
