Question ID: 573071
I am looking for multiple
proofpoints/statistics/surveys/research/industry analyst reports (from
known, credible analysts like Gartner, Forrester, IDC, McKinsey, etc.)
that focus on the value of IT investments that are industry-specific
vs broad and horizontal. One example for the type of proofpoint I am
looking for is the IDC study: "IT Purchase Decisions: 2005-2006 -
Priorities and Decision-Makers" that showed that vertical industry
solutions top software investment priorities for 2005. I need more of
this type of research. Ideally global and across the following four
industries:
1. Financial Services
2. Manufacturing
3. Healthcare
4. Retail
I am interested in mid-to-long-term trends (3-5 years out).

Thanks,
Harald

Hello haraldb-ga,

I've tried to find the article or research report you gave as an
example ("IT Purchase Decisions: 2005-2006 - Priorities and
Decision-Makers") but I was unable to locate it on the IDC website or
any reference to it on the Web.

On the other hand, I was able to find this report that seems to be an
example of what you're looking for. It covers all four of the
industries you've listed and projects four years out (2005-2009).

Hi, thanks for your prompt response. I just found out that the IDC
study I referenced does not exist. This was the title of an IDC
presentation that featured summarized findings from a variety of
sources. The most relevant for my question came from IDC's Enterprise
Technology Trends Survey 2005:
- Doument #: 33824
- Type: Study
- Date: Aug 2005 2Q05
- Title: "IT Decision Monitor: IT Solution Adoption and Investment
Priorities for 2005"
- Author: Lucie Draper

The IDC study you reference looks like a good fit. Essentially what I
am looking for are more "calls to actions" for executives to focus
their strategies (incl. IT investments) on industry-specific solutions
rather than broad, horizontal ones. If you can find 3 to 4 more
proofpoints, that would be great.

Thanks,
Harald
