Hello!

I am working on a project where customers can submit their files to a
printer through the printer's website after registration. We are
looking at anti-virus software options that would scan the files that
are submitted by customers (through the webpage) onto the printer's
server. The anti-virus should scan and only accept those onto the
server that are free of any malicious code. If necessary, we would be
happy to write code that works in combination with the anti-virus
software.

How much does such an anti-virus software cost? I am specifically
looking for an answer that points to software with the features
mentioned above. Looking for pricing information for two-three
anti-virus software products that provide the above.

Any comments/suggestions on this process we're adopting would also be appreciated.

Thanks,
Pat79-ga

How about free? See Clam AV (clamav.net) and mod_clamav:

mod clamav
Homepage: http://software.othello.ch/mod_clamav/
Supports: libclamav, clamd
mod clamav is an Apache virus scanning filter. It was written and is
currently maintained
by Andreas Muller. The project is very well documented and the installation is
quite easy.

Most commercial AV software are priced by seats. If your project is a
product which will be saled in public and every copy support 50 users,
the AV engine (KAV or Symantec) will cost you over $200 for every copy
and about $50 every year for services(update).

ClamAV is not recommended. It's a great open source project. But the
pattern is alway out of date. Please see
http://yale.8800.org/smb_trap/ for my daily log of worm. It leaks over
40% new virus. F-prot is a good candidate for free AV. But you need to
check the license of F-prot before deploying it into your project.
