According to Census Bureau data published in September 2004, there are
49,983 Hotels, Motels, Inns and B&B?s in the United States.

Detail:
Hotels (except casino hotels) and motels - 46,163
Casino hotels  - 283
Bed and breakfast, Inns - 3,537

According to the 2004 Lodging Industry Profile by the American Hotel &
 Lodging Association (AHLA), there are 47,584 properties in the United
States.
(Based on properties with 15 or more rooms.)

Upscale hotels to RV parks. Motels, resorts, casino hotels,
bed-and-breakfast inns, and boarding houses also are included in this
number.

"Hotels and other accommodations are as diverse as the many families
and business travelers they accommodate. The industry includes all
types of lodging, from upscale hotels to RV parks. Motels, resorts,
casino hotels, bed-and-breakfast inns, and boarding houses also are
included. In fact, nearly 61,000 establishments provided overnight
accommodations to suit many different needs and budgets in 2002."
