I'm trying to assist a family with a listing of nursing homes or individual providers, preferrably in the Ohio area, who can care for a severely brain-injured child (22 months) who is on a ventilator. Child *must* be moved from hospital in the next few days and prior arrangements have fallen through. At least 112 hours per week nursing care needed (expenses covered by Medicare). I'm experienced with Google searches, but I'm not finding enough -- any ideas? Many, many thanks. |

This site may have some useful information: http://www.biaoh.org/linksnational.html Would this family consider in home skilled nursing care? Have they spoken to the social worked employed by the hospital? Social workers usually know about local facilities. Regards, Crabcakes |

Thank you for your comment and link, which may provide a good lead. Yes, skilled nursing care is fine (RN, LPNs needed) but it needs to be in a foster home, probably one licensed for medically fragile children. In this case, various people have been involved but the amazing bottom line is that no suitable place has been found. I'm surprised that I am unable to locate a list of facilities or agencies that do this, (though perhaps the good news is that this is rare enough that it's not yet organized.) Continue to appreciate your work. |

This child is Part C eligible and should have a service coordinator assigned. The website for Ohio's Help Me Grow System is www.ohiohelpmegrow.org also the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services might be helpful too, they administer the Ohio Home Care Waiver. |
