I really need to be able to name the large valley-like depression of
which the azerbaifan Naxcivan Automous Republic is a part. The
depression is in turkey, Iran, Armenia, and maybe a little is in
Georga. I need to know the name of the depression and the names of
all the little valleys, hills, and rivers, and Mountains in this area
and elevations thereof. I again wish to have Leli-ga to do it.

This depression I am trying to describe follows the Aras or "Araz"
river whose size and course I also need to know about. We think this
depression contained the Biblical flood and is an important primal
cultural center of old. If we could fill this depression with water
what would be the shape and size of the resulting'sea"?..and etc.

Hello again Hal

Thank-you for the compliment of asking for my help again (and for the
rating).
You're obviously setting out on a fascinating and far-ranging project.
Thanks for sharing your ideas about that part of the world; I hadn't
realised you were involved in such an ambitious piece of research.
I notice you say 'we' and I'm glad you have fellow-enthusiasts to work
with on this inquiry. As one individual researcher, however, I have to
admit I find the vast scope of your questions a little daunting.

At this stage (pre-research) I think I could probably help you with:
1 Identifying the depression/valley
2 Information on the Araz river
3 Suggestions on how to move towards your goal of naming and measuring
every river, hill etc.

Commenting on how the 'sea' would look is, I'm afraid, beyond my
expertise.

As for the archaeology/anthropology question you asked in your
feedback on the previous question, I'd have to suggest posting this as
a separate question as I think it would involve a whole different
research effort.

So what I'm really asking is:
Would 1, 2 and 3 above be enough for you?
Or if you feel you would like to throw it open to see if another
researcher can meet your needs more exactly, you are absolutely
entitled to cancel this question and resubmit it in any form you
prefer.

Regards - Leli

Thanks for your friendly messages, Hal. I'm going to have to ask you
for yet another question clarification!

It seems that there is an identifiable depression/lowland in
Azerbaijan, bordered by mountains except where it adjoins the Caspian
Sea. The Araz flows through some other countries before it enters
this lowland area of Azerbaijan but the lowland itself does not
include Naxcivan or anywhere except parts of Azerbaijan.

Do you want me to continue? I really appreciate your remark about
trust and I'd like to help if you feel this is going in the right
direction.

Hello Hal

Sorry - but I'm not winning here. I've found no trace of a name for
the whole area you're interested in, only the Ararat Valley for the
lowest part within Armenia. I think it's time to throw this open to
other researchers. I can let some of my colleagues know that their
help is needed but you might be wise to cancel this question and
submit a fresh one. That way it rises to the top of the list and it's
clear to all researchers that it's not earmarked for me. In the
meantime you might make some general progress by typing in "Araz OR
Araks river" into Google or try "Ararat Valley".
I wish you both a lot of luck with your researches. It all sounds
very intriguing. And thank-you very much for your nice attitude - if
only I could have found what you wanted!

Regards - Leli

Note for other researchers.
n.b. this clarification posted via a previous question:

"It is an elevated basin about 1000 to 3000ft. high. The 'basin' is
formed
by surounding mountains which are very high and extensive. Down the
center of this very rugged basin chacterized by many hills and
mini-mountains and mini-valleys, runs the araz river. The Araz runs
out of this elevated basin at the southern end of Armenia just where
the Araz drops down into a deep gorge and enters into Azerbaijan(the
big piece, not the Naxcivan Automomous Republic). The elevated basin
probably does not include Georgia. On Topographical maps this
elevated basin is easily recognizible, so I was hoping there would be
a geological term for it so I might get some information on IT instead
of having to get a little from trukey, a little from Iran, Armenia.
Azerbaijan. The only low elevation exit for this elevated basin is
that narrow gorge in southern Armenia where the Araz desends into the
big section of that unhappy country of Azerbaijan "
