fltuser-ga,

According to the 2005 Statistical Abstracts of the United States, the
number of businesses by size in 2001 (the most recent year published)
are:

1-4..................2,698,000

5-99.................2,238,000

100-999.................97,000

1000+....................7,000

The data were taken from the size classes (combining classes, where
called for) in two tables:

http://www.census.gov/prod/2004pubs/04statab/business.pdf

No. 732. Employer Firms, Employment, and Annual Payroll by Enterprise Size
and Industry: 2001

and

No. 730. Establishments, Employees, and Payroll by Employment-Size Class:
1990 to 2001

I trust these numbers fully answer your question.

However, please don't rate this answer if there's anything else you
need. Just post a Request for Clarification to let me know what I can
do for you, and I'm at your service.

Cheers,
