Question ID: 573772
What percentage of cardiac catheterizations are performed on an
outpatient basis each year in the United States? The answer should
show the number of procedures performed for diagnostic purposes only
divided by the number performed for all reasons including diagnosis
and treatment by baloon angioplasty or other means. Data for the most
recent year available would be fine.

Hello ghayes,

I found a 2003 Federal Trade Commission Hearings document that gives
the following 1999 figures:

- Number of inpatient cardiac catheterization procedures
- Number of outpatient cardiac catheterization procedures
- Number of coronary artery bypass graft operations
- Number of coronary artery angioplasty procedures

Please let me know if these numbers would be useful as an answer to your question.

Thank you
Bobbie7

Thanks, that seems to be heading inthe right direction. The problem is
that the information maybe too old. The use of catheterization on an
outpatient basis has grown over the past ten years. If you could find
something from 2002 or later - that would be great.

Thanks

Procedure data typically lags by 18 months. You might look at
Scott-Levin or Solucient to see if they have what you are looking for.
