I made the mistake of signing up for Adult Friend Finder and the
company keeps adding charges to my debit cqard. the company says the
only way to get the charges off is to call. I tried and could not
after 40 minutes. Aol and Earthstink have been fined for giving
bonuses for not allowing quitting. Disputes with Visa do not work.
Bank says to stop card.
How can I get 5things like internet service without giving a card that
companies like Earthstink will debit when they need cash? it is
madness to give companies you bank check numbers.
SOLUTIONS?

A number of credit card companies (for instance, MBNA, which I use)
allow you to create disposable numbers. So I have my regular card with
my account number. But when I'm making a purchase from someone I
haven't used before, or it's a 1-time purchase, I create a disposable
number. (It's done online with a little application that sits in your
machine.) It creates the number and the 3-digit security code.
Depending on the application, it'll fit in the form for you (if the
form's open on your computer), or you can drop-and-drag the
information, or simply re-enter it. You can set a maximum spending
limit, and/or an expiration date. So, for instance, if I were buying
something for $100 today, I could create a temporary number, maximum
limit of $100, and an expiration date of tomorrow. The only drawback
I've found is that if something has to be credited back (say you paid
for something, then return it for credit), (1) the temporary number
must still be active, (2) you'll have to create a new temporary
number, or (3) you'll have to give the merchant your actual number.

Hope that helps.
