In the 1970's the New York Knicks had a fanatic at their home games
named "Dancing Harry". He would dance along the sidelines and put the
"whammy" on the opponents. Apparently he was associated with Earl
Monroe and followed him to whichever team he was playing for. What was
his real name? Where is he now? Any information about this character
would be greatly appreciated. |

Dancing Harry?s identity is apparently somewhat of a mystery:
?Dancin' Harry and the "Whammy"!
The Indiana Pacers' incredible 1975 Playoff run was fueled by none
other than "Dancin' Harry," a mysterious, strangely-dressed mascot
hailing from parts unknown. Dancin' Harry's sole purpose was to put a
hex -- the "Whammy" -- on the opposing team. During a time out, he
would dance, twirl his cape, and shake his fingers at the other team's
huddle (above right). From that point on, the Pacers' opponent was
doomed. In the 1975 ABA Playoffs, Dancin' Harry's hex worked against
the heavily favored San Antonio Spurs and Denver Nuggets, but failed
in the Championship Series against the Kentucky Colonels.?

Ahh, but persistence pays off!
?Dancin? Harry? was none other than Edward Cooper, who, as of 2001,
was spending his days a skycap at Baltimore-Washington International
Airport (and a lively one too, I bet).

I see now that my mistake was searching for "dancing" instead of
"dancin", but info still seems very scarce. There must be more on this
guy than that one sentence in the Indystar...
