First time caller, long time listener. This question is meant to be a starting point for a few larger questions, thus the low initial price. Though, if someone answers well it could lead to subsequent questions. I'm an undergrad Graphic Design student working on my thesis, I need statistical information but am unsure how to go about it. Here are some of my questions 1. I'm trying to find the Name, City and Zip Code for all the locations of any number of Big Box vendors (WalMart, Home Depot, Best Buy, etc.). While most company sites have "store locators" they only show 3 to 20 stores at a time and the prospect of entering thousands of entries seems a little absurd. How and would it be possible to find/get a listing of all locations and information possibly in a Excel spread sheet? 2. What are America's top 10 to 25 major chain location players (Walmart, Home Depot, McDonalds, Starbucks). I'm trying to define urban landmarks that are ubiquitous to America and it'd be good to have a comprehensive list of the entities. 3. How do I go about pricing subsequent questions? I'm a college student, so I have don't have much funds to burn. With that said, what's a good guide for pricing questions. Especially ones that'd require data heavy work (for example a combination of questions 1 and 2). Are answerers willing to accommodate cheaper questions with a good cause as readily as marginal but high priced questions? your advice would be appreciated. |

You'll find a list of the top 100 US retailers and the number of locations for each at the following site, in PDF form, The list includes supermarket chains but not restaurant chains like MacDonald's. It seems unlikely that ANY source would provide a list of all locations and their addresses for the top 10. http://retailindustry.about.com/od/sales_retailers/a/2004_top100_nrf.htm As for how to price questions, it's a free market. If your price is fair, you will get someone to go to work on it. If not, you won't. Just try to think of the time involved in giving a good answer to the question, and set your offer accordingly. |

I guess what I'd be looking for in a combination of question 1 and 2 would be the specific store listings of one brand of retailers in a single document, so multiple documents for multiple brands. A friend started to make a python app that'd scoures Walmarts site and enters the store information based on zip code (by repeatedly hitting the store locator). The problem is it's quite a bit over my head and he isn't able to donate much time to pursuing the project. |
