I started by seeking out a current list of celebrities and in doing so
I chose FORBES TOP 100 CELEBRITIES. With the assistance of my handy 7
year-old and my 16 year-old, we plowed through the list considering
how well-known and regarded each one was to them and their friends.
Here you will find many of them listed by FORBES ranking system. I?ve
removed those from the list that my kids and their friends did not
feel were relative to your question (they either didn?t know who the
people were or didn?t think they were ?hip? and ?cool?). We did MUCH
better that the fifteen you requested, by the way. Here they are in
ranking order (according to FORBES) and confirmed as hip and cool
celebrities according to ?my? kids (I admit to being a bit out of
touch. I don?t even know who some of them are). I?ve added * where
known to be popular among tots by my 7 year old and *** where known to
be popular among teens according to my 16 year old.

As for Kelly Clarkson? Well, teens obviously idolize her (no pun
intended). At the 2205 Clarkson was awarded both the ?Choice Music
Album? award and the ?Choice Music Female Artist for 2005? for her
album ?Breakaway?, and ?Choice Music Single? for her single ?Since U
Been Gone?. To round it out Clarkson was given the nod for the ?Choice
Summer Song? award for her song ?Behind These Hazel Eyes?, meaning
that she, among all others considered in the Teen Choice Awards,
walked away with more awards (four in all) that any other celebrity in
any other entertainment genre for the entire year of 2005.

Does that make her popular with kids? I?ll say.
How?s that for a list? Certainly this list does not cover everyone.
There are likely hundreds more (which, as you can imagine, is why I
asked for a specific expectation of the list before I began).
Depending of course on who the kids are, what part of the country or
world they live in, and what their cultural backgrounds are, each list
will undoubtedly differ some. This list however is what my little
experts helped me compile and according to them, these people ROCK!
(they?re words, not mine).

The TEEN CHOICE AWARDS site obviously speaks for itself in terms of
what teens prefer. The winners of the most popular celebrity in each
category is chosen by the teen public between the ages of 13 and 19 as
collected by Teen People, a subsidiary of People Magazine. The winners
are chosen from among the top four vote getters in each category by a
committee of Teen People, Teenasaurus Rox, Bob Bain Productions and
FOX representatives, each entity being very capable on marketing teen
products and teen trends in its own right.
