Could you explain a little more as to what you require. On a browser,
the tab on your keyboard is used to move from hyperlink to hyperlink.
Most useful for those who cannot use a mouse.

I'm talking about (s)htm(l) code that you can use just like the
tab-stops on a typewriter or keyboard.

Do you mean that with html you want to position your text at various
positions on the page? For example (hope this comes out OK):

Text
                           Text                                 Text

                 Text

Yes. If we presuppose commands like <TAB SPACE="4"> to set the tab
stops and commands like <TAB POS="2">Text-A <TAB POS="7">Text-B to
place Text-A at the 2nd tab stop or indented 8 spaces from the left
margin, and Text-B at the 7th tab stop or indented 28 spaces from the
left margin.

You could use the CSS property text-indent, if you're willing to use CSS.

Something like:

p {
  text-indent: 2.0em;
}

Not familiar with CSS. Why wouldn't I want to use it?
