Are you certain of the exact wording? I remember a book that starts "A
is for Apple, so shiny and red." Approximately when was your book
likely to have been published?

It was not a nursery rhyme, it was an illustrated book. The wording
that I wrote is correct, and was on the market some time around 1979.

I should clarify. I'm almost positive of the wording but what was the
name of the book that you're thinking of?
There is no answer at this time.

I can remember a nursery rhyme which started:
'A' is for apple, so rosy and red
'B' is for Baby, who's just going to bed'...

The book was called the Alphabet Book and it was a Little Golden
Book.... A is for apple red and bright, B is for bed where I sleep at
night, C is for carrot crunchy and yummy, D is for dog he lies on his
tummy.... etc etc.... It was my favorite book when i was little and i
memorized the whole thing!
