Dear spax,
MegaBit Tech is a scam. I would not trust them with 1.50 dollars, let alone $1500.
First of all, I checked the "About Us" section of their website:
http://www.megabittech.net/index.php?aux_page=aux1
There they allege that their company is located at Via San Carlo 16,
80132 Napoli, Italy, and that their telephone number is +30
081-2206282. That telephone number is a very clumsy fake: The country
code for Italy is not +30, but +39. +30 is the country code for
Greece. The rest of the number follows the Italian scheme, with 081
indeed being the local code for Napoli (Naples). But the number as a
whole is completely worthless and a very obvious fake. They don't want
to be contacted, so they provided a telephone number that looks fine,
but leads nowhere at all.
I then checked the address. While there is a Via San Carlo in Naples,
there is not the slightest trace of a company named MegaBit Tech being
headquarted there.
Next, I checked the ownership record for the domain megabittech.net.
Allegedly, the domain has been registered by this individual:
Paul A. [omitted for privacy]
14 [adress omitted f
Towson, 21204 MD
USA
Phone: 315-452-4612
E-Mail: mallos_887@yahoo.com
There is indeed one Paul A. [XXX] who owns the property at that
address in Maryland, but he is certainly not the person who registered
this domain. Scammers often use any name and address they can get to
register domains for their fraudulent activities. The telephone number
does not belong to any place in Maryland at all, but to North
Syracuse, NY. And the e-mail address has, without any doubt, just been
set up by the scammers for registering the domain; it is obviously not
connected in any way with the real Paul A. [XXX]. There can be no
doubt that he does not know at all that his address has been misused
by scammers; the same is certainly true for the real owner of the NY
telephone number. And: Why would an Italian company register their
domain through an American individual? There are domain registration
companies in Italy, too. Reputable companies don't use fake addresses
to register their domains; only fraudster who don't want to be tracked
by their victims do so.
Besides, it is interesting that the domain has been registered only on
2 September 2005 and will already expire on 2 September 2006. This is
typical for online frauds: "Disposable" domains that are registered
for only a brief period of time and that will simply be abandoned once
they are not of use any longer. Another behavior reputable companies
do not display.
By the way, in the "News" section of their website, I found this
revealing little sentence: "due to fraud activity, credit cards are no
longer accepted". Another typical feature of online scams - they don't
say what payment options they still accept, but there can be no doubt
that they will insist on payment via Western Union or a similar method
that makes it impossible to track where the money actually went or to
ever call it back.
The only possible conclusion: Don't do any business with MegaBit Tech.
They are nothing but scammers.
Best regards,
Scriptor
