It could be either.  But - I want "corporate headquarters" - not just
corporations.   I am a sales rep for a printing company.  Many times I
cold call on companies and inquire about their printing needs - i.e.
letterhead, envelopes, business cards.  Many times the response is
that their corporate office handles all of that.

For instance, I know that there are corporate headquarters in Dallas
for Pizza Hut, Gadzooks and Mary Kay.  But they dont have to be
publicly owned at all.  Just a company that has several locations, but
their corporate office is in one of these cities.  I tried a search on
google - corporate headquarters, Lewisville.  That worked ok, but I
want a whole list.  The chamber website for Carrollton says there are
several thousand corporate headquarters in Carrollton alone.  I would
be happy with a few hundred from each city.

A listing from the Office of the Texas Secretary of State might not be
practical, since online records search through that office is a
subscription service, with a fee per search. I also cannot be positive
that such a search would provide the targeted type of list you're
seeking. No sample records or database examples are available for
ascertaining that the appropriate information is indeed available,  
without buying a subscription. The available searches listed seem to
be by company name, Tax ID number, or person, rather than by address.

Though compiling a custom listing of 1,200 businesses is a bit more
than the scope of what we're able to do with Google Answers, I can
provide you with a search method that will allow you to locate and
compile a list of those companies that have both a web presence and

Below, I've provided search links for Google searches which will
produce new lists of corporate headquarters for a number of companies
in the cities you've specified. As you can guess, by simply changing
the cities, you may expand the searches to any city you choose.

The key to the search is to use some of Google's advanced search
functions to provide as much of a targeted result listing as is
possible. You'll be able to see the corporate headquarters address
from the search result listing in most cases. This will allow you to
quickly decide if that resulting link is worth pursuing. You should be
able to copy and paste many of the addresses directly from the search
results.

The search links are quite long, however, I've left them "as is" so
that they are directly clickable. In scanning the results, it appears
that approximately 2 in 5 yield a corporate address in the desired
cities.
