I am in New Delhi, India using my Blackberry 7320. On the Blackberry I'm able to go into Options, select Network and then search Manually for the available networks. Doing this I was able to select AirTel, a GPRS network and promptly begin downloading my emails. My wife however has a Treo 650. How can I manually select networks on this phone? It has GPRS capabilities and I can find no reason why it cannot find a local network..even a simple GMS network. I must point out we are from Orlando Florida, her network is Cingular. While on a layover in Toronto she was able to connect through Rogers Wireless..in that case it found the network for her automatically. Please let me know if you can be of any assistance |

Did you contact cingular before you left to allow you to have international calling. if you did, the select network option is under menu in the phone screen. if you did not, you need to the 'cingular' version does not 'automatically' look for a gsm/gprs network. |

yes, that has been set up with cingular. When we get back to the hotel room I'll do the step you have suggested and let you know. |

Are you trying to make voice calls or email ? If voice, select network from phone menu -> Option-> I think you can select network under Call pref's. Been A while since I owned a treo. |

I guess the issue might be the GPRS gateway. Cingular uses a particular APN and IP address to connect to the GPRS gateway. If you're in India, probably the settings with its roaming partner would be different. |

Thanks for everyone's effort on this. As it turns out I never had the service turned on with Cingular. Or I should say, Cingular never turned the service on when I asked them a few months back. They set it over the phone and the phone found it's own gprs network..Actually works a little better than the Blackberry! Thanks for the comments. |
