Microsoft outlook problem. I am trying to make distribution lists in
Outlook or through Thunderbird but find that my CONTACTS ADDRESS BOOK
Outlook Personal folders are duplicated, and the wrong one is being
accessed. I find I cannot erase or move the older one somewhere else
as Personal folders seem fixed. As such I cannot make any useful
distribution lists, and find no solution, can anyone assist ? Andrew Savile

Hi andysavile,
See if this helps -
How to Remove Extra Contact Folders from Outlook's Address Book
Remove the Outlook Address Book
1. Open Outlook.
2. From the Tools menu choose Email Accounts.
3. Select View or change existing directories or address books and click Next.
4. Select Outlook Address Book and click Remove. Click Yes.
5. Click Finish.
6. CLOSE Outlook.
7. Re-open Outlook.
* This has removed "all" references to the old or extra Outlook Address Books

Hiya, it seemed to have half worked. I had erased subfolders that i
knew were duplicated and had fewer contacts, did what you suggested
and then tried to access the contacts folder from the actions "make
distribution list" function. Though I can see the contacts folders
have the right number of entries and are thus the up to date version,
I still cannot access the full contacts folders through ACTION distr
list function, even when the correct folder is highlighted. I think I
need to reimport the contacts and then do this again for Thunderbird,
bit lost really with it. So i still cannot make distr lists. Not a
very easy thing to explain to you!
When i select members on Distr lists i only get an old version of
CONTACTS and no subfolders at all, even when i highlight the folder
first of all i still have this problem, its like there is an old
contacts folder being accessed....sorry, Andrew

Hi Andrew,
Did you click on the link I gave you to view the full instructions
(copyright restrictions keep us from copying and pasting everything)?
Perhaps the second half will help?
Good luck,

Hummer, it is possible that we are nearly there...if you can tell me
how to tell Outlook to show the contacts sub folders throught
Actions-distr list-select members then perhaps i can see if it is
fixed by how many entries show in a particular folder, good luck!

Andrew, you have me stumped. It seems to me that after you live with
it for awhile, you will be able to tell if the problem is resolved or
not. In the meantime, perhaps someone else will be able to shed some
light on this.
I did try to find out how you could determine if it's fixed and the
best I could come up with is this link. Don't know if it will be of
any use or not.

Thanks, that was very useful to go through, but I still seem to have
the same problem. I wonder if this is as I personally see no
difference between the Contacts and the Address Book, i have no
address book imported currently, and if i did i would not know where
to find it and would go looking for the Contacts again, does that
suggest a solution to you? Andrew

Hi Andrew,
I've neglected to ask you which version of Outlook you have, but here
are some more ideas -
Outlook 2003 [click on link for more ideas]
"Thank you. I got it resolved by deleting my Address Book, then
creating a new one. Lost my sub folders, but I can easily import them
again (presuming I don't create yet another set of duplicate lists!)."
