I am doing a research on Virgin Group (Richard Brason's) management
structure. Does anyway has any detail information regarding to this
company? I know that Virgin itself is a private company, and I see
that Virgin Mobile is publicly traded etc...

But what about other companies that use Virgin brand, which are
public? which are private? How do they organize the management
structure? ie. do they assign CEO for each division? How? It would be
great if any one could provide me detailed information on this.

Dear porpon2007-ga

I have found a 28 page case study which I believe will give you some
good information. In fact, it is the most comprehensive source of
information I have been able to find.

Blackwell Publishing produce a Contemporary Strategy Analysis.
http://www.blackwellpublishing.com/grant/cases/sample_cases.htm

One sample case is ?Richard Branson and the VirginGroup of Companies in 2004?
http://www.blackwellpublishing.com/grant/docs/15Virgin.pdf

It discusses the history and development of Virgin, and then examines
the Virgin Group of Companies in 2004. There are tables, details of
financial performance, and ownership structure diagrams.

This is a very brief extract.
?The Virgin group is not a single corporate entity. The Virgin
companies comprise several holding companies and over 200 operating
companies, most of which are based within Britain. The equity owned by
Branson, both individually and through a series of family trusts, is
held by Virgin Group Investments Ltd. The linkages between the
companies include: the common use of the Virgin trademark, Branson?s
role as shareholder (both directly and indirectly through the trusts),
Branson?s role as chairman of the companies, and Branson?s management
role, which is primarily in publicity, public and government
relations, and appointing senior executives. The Virgin empire comprises those
companies which were wholly or majority owned by Branson and those in which
Branson held a minority equity stake.?

From the information supplied in the report, you will be able to
identify further Google search terms to gather extra information on
individual companies within the group.

I hope this answers your question. If it does not, or the answer is
unclear, then please ask for clarification of this research before
rating the answer. I shall respond to the clarification request as
soon as I receive it.
Thank you

Do you have more articles? Only one? :-)

Dear porpon2007-ga,

As I wrote, this is the most comprehensive source of information I
have been able to find. I tried to find other comprehensive reports to
provide the information but this was the only one that I found that
was free - analyst?s reports are most often found on financial
websites at a considerable charge.
http://www.hoovers.com/freeuk/tools/report/builder/form.xhtml?ID=41676

There is, of course, information on each of the web sites of the
Virgin Group which can be accessed through the Virgin.com but a
detailed examination and extraction of information would not be with
the price you have offered.

Hope this helps.

Alternatively, you can read an article in the February 19, 1998
Edition of The Economist that shows you the ownership structure of the
Virgin empire. The title is "Behind Branson" and you can find the
article by searching on www.econmist.com.
