Question ID: 576165
I am looking for information on biodiesel.

I need clear and specific information for someone that starts out
from scratch. How to make it, can all diesel cars use it, can it be used
when it is cold, how long can it be stored, what is the best raw material

I am more interested in sites that have explanations, construction details,
and also product sales sites. Are there any blogs, or comunity sites
covering the topic.

Thank you

Dear bioman2-ga;

Believe it or not, one of the best sources for information about
biodeisel comes from entertainer Willie Nelson, who has funded
extensive research in this area and has, himself, invested heavily in
this cutting-edge fuel:

NEWS AND ARTICLES OF INTEREST: http://www.wnbiodiesel.com/articles.html

Here you will find the BIODIESEL & SVO DISCUSSION FORUMS where people
like you (beginners to experts) discuss the making and marketing of
biodeisel fuels:

Along that same line you will find numerous biodiesel forums that
discuss the various types of fuels and marketing strategies and covers
topics ranging from small-scale biodiesel business, biodiesel
co-operatives, and biodiesel homebrewing just to name a few:

BIODIESEL 101 (courtesy of the NATIONAL BIODIESEL BOARD) is another
site where one can learn all the basic on this fuel concept.

Be sure to visit these topics as well as the other links across the
top of the page under RESOURCES and NEWS in particular:

The Government also supplies a considerable amount of information of interest:

DEPARTMENT OF ENERGY BIODIESEL FUEL FACT SHEET.

What I?ve provided you with here is probably more information that
you?d ever want to read in one sitting. But please examine it
carefully and let me know if this sufficiently answers your question.

Hello tutuzdad-ga,

Thank you for your fast reply. I had to look through the links you
provided to get a better idea. Can you find some more about companies
selling finished products or kits?

Thank you

Dear bioman2-ga;

I'm delighted that you were pleased with what I?ve provided thus far.
In addition to what I have already offered I am adding this
information as an answer at your request:

Here is a directory of companies all over the US that sell biodiesel
kits. Each link will take you directly to the company and give you an
overview of its products and services. I was very impressed with the
amount of information provided in this single directory. These
companies all appear to really understand the biodiesel concept:

EcoBusinessLinks
http://www.ecobusinesslinks.com/biodiesel.htm

In particular I found these companies to be especially worthy of
notice where parts and kits are concerned:

B100 SUPPLY
http://www.b100supply.com/home.html

UTAH BIODIESEL SUPPLY
http://www.utahbiodieselsupply.com/

DISTRIBUTION DRIVE
http://www.distributiondrive.com/products%20conversion%20kits.html

. . . . . . . . .

I also found some very technical research papers and material safety
data sheets on biodiesel of various types if these are of particular
interest to you. You will also note some informative articles on
?Small Scale Production Processes? near the bottom of the page:

BIODIESEL GEAR
http://www.biodieselgear.com/documentation/index.htm

. . . . . . . . .

A company called GREEN TRUST offers information, links and articles
about several different conversion kits if these are in your area of
interest:

If you are interested in ?alternatives? to alternative fuel (yes, it?s
already happened) you can read some interesting articles about
biodiesel made from Algae and fish oils here:
http://www.green-trust.org/2000/biofuel/biofuel.htm

Here?s another interesting 24-page article about small-scale
production of biodiesel from common seed oils like sunflower, soybean,
walnut and many others:
http://www.green-trust.org/2000/biofuel/oilseed.pdf

. . . . . . . . .

BIODIESEL WAREHOUSE appears to be another great source for kits and
solutions including DIY Processor Kits, Meters & Gauges, pumps, Tanks
& Drums, Dispensing solutions, Filters, Scales, Quality & Testing
issues, Books & Instruction manuals, and Generators, just to name a
few:

You may also find this Titration Table particularly helpful at some
point in the future so you can determine the amount of lye you need in
grams based on your titration without a calculator:

. . . . . . . . .

Getting back to basics, here are some really well done primers on
biodiesel for beginners:

You should check out http://www.greasecar.com/ - it has detailed
instructions on how to create your own vegetable-oil running diesel
vehicle, as well as testimonials and pictures of users who have done
so - on everything from a small VW bug to big SUVs.

Hope that helps.
