I saw a TV special about "Medical Tourism" in India and elsewhere, and
am looking for any advice and information regarding what the average
cost per day for in-patient hospitalization might be for an elderly
stroke victim, Physical Therapy costs, and if I should consider any
other hospitals other than the Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals?
My friend is 84 years old and has had a number of strokes. His
medicare coverage runs out in 2 days and he is being moved to a less
than desireable nursing home where he will hopefully get occasional
physical therapy for $160 US/day. He also needs a hearing aid, and it
is difficult to communicate with him because of his hearing loss and
difficulty speaking.
He has made slow but good progress in his physical and speech
recovery, but is still on a feeding tube, cannot walk very far, and
cannot speak very well. We believe this is because of his less than
adequate care at the nursing home (lieing about giving physical
therapy when they didn't, etc.) He is mentally sharp and motivated to
get better, and it is a shame they are not giving him a chance.
I would deeply appreciate any help with this, hopefully this would be
something he can afford and we can get him on a plane to India soon!
As I see it his only alternative is to waste away in a nursing home
until his savings are gone, then go on Medicaid.
So to summarize, I'm looking for any information on average costs of
in-patient hospitilization for an international elderly patient
requiring stroke rehab therapies, as well as any suggestions for
hospitals, advice, etc. |
